Doctoral academic studies

The Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo is fully capable to provide doctoral studies, which can be confirmed by the Ruling of the Ministry of Science number: 021-01-61/95 from December 24, 2007. The goal of Academic doctoral studies at the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo is to transfer scientific knowledge and to develop and improve science in general, as well as to provide young scientists for the field of stomatology. The objective of these studies is based on the fact and cognition that only scientifically highly trained professionals can further contribute to the development of stomatology as a field of science, and having that in mind, also towards further improvement and advancement of working techniques in the field, which serves the ultimate purpose of preserving and improving oral health, and with that in mind, also public health in general. On the basis of recent results of our work and activities, as well as the experiences of employees of the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo, the Faculty is, without a doubt, competent to, by continuing its new study programme of doctoral academic studies, educate scientists in the field of stomatology in the future.


Objectives of the study programme

The objectives of the study programme of doctoral academic studies of stomatology is to educate doctors of medical sciences – stomatology, who will, by using their scientific potential, knowledge and expertise, fully satisfy the needs for professionals of that calibre in faculty and science and research institutions, domestically, as well as abroad.

The objective of the study programme of doctoral academic studies of stomatology at the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo is to develop and advance biomedical sciences, foster critical thinking among its students and a critical way of analyzing all past research in the field of stomatology, which also encompasses assessing the level of education among other professionals, who are fully equipped to independently and professionaly conduct original scientific research, to competently participate in the development of new technologies and procedures of interest to the science of stomatology, as well as to educate and train young professionals. The objectives of doctoral academic studies undoubtedly stem from the goals of the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo.

The study programme of doctoral academic studies is based on science and research work of the people employed at the Faculty, because stomatology, as a field of medicine, has seen great progress in the last decades owing to the development of biomedical research on the one hand, and undreamed technological development in the fields of medicine and stomatology on the other. Since biomedical research, as a scientific basis for stomatological sciences, is primarily related to the orofacial area and based on fundamental research that respected the specific characteristics of the orofacial area, so are the goals of the study programme of doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo directed towards such fundamental research.

The goals of study programme of doctoral academic studies involve at the same time, acquiring scientific skills and abilities and creative development of future doctors of science, as well as mastering specific practical skills depending on the affinities of each student, which are necessary for future development of their careers.

The Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo, as a member of the Association for Dental Education in Europe and America (ADEE i ADEA) holds true the the principles for the creation of curriculum models for stomatologists, on its integrated academic studies and doctoral studies, and all of that in accordance with the Bologna Declaration.


Competencies of our graduates

The study programme of doctoral academic studies at the Faculty of Stomatology in Pančevo enables the students to, after completing their studies, acquire knoweldge, skills, abilities and competencies to:

  • Independently solve practical and theoretical problems in the field of stomatology, as well as to conduct further scientific research;
  • Participate as equal members in the realization of international scientific projects in the field of stomatology;
  • Realize and improve the development of new technologies and procedures in stomatology, as well as to be capable to successfully harness the latest knowledge in the scientific field of stomatology;
  • Think critically, work and produce in a creative and independent manner;
  • Respect the principles of the ethical code and proper scientific and professional practice;
  • Communicate in a professional manner in reporting the results of their own science and research projects or of the team they happen to be working with;
  • To report their results on scientific conferences, to publish papers in scientific journals, and participate in the creation of new methods of research;
  • To contribute with their work to the development of scientific discipline and science in general, to the benefit of all.
  • By mastering the study programme of doctoral academic studies, the students also gains the following expert and scientific competencies:
  • A thorough knowledge and understanding of all disciplines of stomatology;
  • Capability to solve all problems in the expertise by using scientific methods and practices;
  • Ability to compile basic scientific and expert knowledge from different areas of stomatology in order to apply it in appropriate situations;
  • The student is fully trained to keep in pace with all the latest achievements in the field of stomatology;
  • The student is trained for expert and qualified use of infromation and communication technonologies used in stomatology.
